Dr. Trupiano issues notice to 4-H Swine Project Members

We've received the following notice to all 4-H'ers bringing a pig to the 2011 Jackson County Fair:

In the past couple of years, we have had to send pigs home due to Erysipelas. This year, I'm requesting that all 4-H swine kids have their pigs boostered for erysipelas at some point during the months of June or July, since there is a 21-day meat withhold after vaccination. I have been able to arrange for 4-H'ers to have access to free vaccines, courtesy of Doug Albright and Pfizer Animal Health, and am planning to provide your Swine Leaders with the vaccines, who will then arrange times to perform the vaccinations.
I encourage you to get your pigs vaccinated, as I would hate to have to send home a kid's project due to something that is easily preventable. Also, it would be nice if each club would send a note to Doug, thanking him and Pfizer for the donated vaccines.
Thank you,
Dr. Duane Trupiano
