Cloverbuds at the Fair

New this year is the addition of Cloverbud Large Animal Showmanship. This will be done on the same day as the Small Animal Showmanship and the Cloverbud Award program. We have added an hour to accommodate the change. Small Animal Showmanship will start at 3:00 p.m. and Large Animal Showmanship will follow at 4 p.m.

Please have the youth there a half hour before the show begins. The award program will follow as soon as the showmanship proceedings are over. The goal is that the Cloverbuds will have a positive experience through participation, personal development, learning and fun while feeling safe and supported.

Animals will be provided. In the beef class Cloverbuds will be showing young calves that will be brought in for the show. In the sheep and swine class Cloverbuds will be showing an animal that belongs to a 4-H member who is a participant of the 2010 Jackson County Fair. Cloverbud parents need to contact one of these members in your club and work with that person before the fair.

The Jackson County Cloverbud animal program follows the State guidelines that are available on the web at: Also listed in the Cloverbud Program Policy are ideas for learn-by-doing activities such as: Identifying species, breeds, parts, and tracks of animals, constructing the ideal animal, observing animal behavior, exploring a veterinary clinic, touring a feed store or keeping a scrapbook to name a few. We expect the parent, guardian, leader or older teen leader to help teach the Cloverbuds how to show their animal species before the fair.

Only registered 4-H Cloverbuds will be permitted to show at the Jackson County Fair. Cloverbuds who are enrolled with a 4-H Club will be able to show at the fair this year. Please check with your 4-H Club Leader to make sure your Cloverbud is registered and the paperwork has been turned in to the MSU Extension – Jackson County Office before May 1, 2010. Look in the Jackson County Fair book under the Cloverbud division for registration information.
